Ark Nova Expansion - New Adventures in the Ocean World

Expand the world of Ark Nova with this expansion, which takes your zoo to a world of marine life beyond the waves. This expansion adds new depth and strategic options to the base Ark Nova game. Requires Ark Nova to play.

Sea creatures come to the zoo

This expansion introduces an all-new animal category: Sea Animals. Represented by an octopus icon, these sea animals bring a new dimension to your zoo. Some sea animals belong to multiple categories, allowing for strategic placement.

Build a dedicated habitat, the "Aquarium"

A new aquarium has been added, a special enclosure for marine animals. The aquarium comes in two sizes:

• Small aquarium (2 spaces)
• Large aquarium (5 spaces)

When building an aquarium, it must be adjacent to water. Each player may only build one aquarium of each size. Most sea animals require an aquarium, but some can be kept in a standard enclosure or reptile house. Some sea animals require adjacent water or rocks, regardless of the enclosure they are kept in.

The Quest for Knowledge - The New University System

This expansion introduces a new Association Board with six new university tiles to place on it. Each university tile has one research icon and one of six animal icons. Placing a university not only grants you a research icon and a printed animal icon, but also grants you the ability to add to your hand the first card (animal or sponsor) from your deck that matches that university's animal icon.

Only one player can acquire a new University tile each round, and players can only have one new University tile, giving you more strategic options to speed up the development of your zoo.

Diversification of Action Cards

There are four alternative versions of each of the five original action cards. At the start of the game, you replace two of your standard action cards with these alternative versions, which provide small bonuses and add variety to gameplay.

These cards are selected using a draft system: each player receives three random action cards, then chooses one and passes it to the next player, and so on. Of the three cards chosen, two with different action types are used in play.

Leaf Dweller and Wave Effect

This expansion also introduces a new game mechanic: some sea animals are "Reef Dwellers" and have a coral icon on their cards. Playing these will trigger the abilities of all Reef Dwellers in your zoo.

Additionally, some cards have a "wave icon" - whenever a card with this icon is revealed, the first card in the display is discarded and replaced with a new card, facilitating card circulation.

Enhanced components

The extension includes the following components:

• New animal cards, final score cards, and bonus tiles
• 3 Alternate Counters (for the Reputation, Conservation, and Appeal tracks)
• 7 Alternate Player Markers (animal shapes, used to support conservation projects) for each player color
• 1 replacement Association Board
• Revised card versions (including changes to include new sea animal icons and some balance adjustments)
• 1 tile for solo play

Enhanced gaming experience

This expansion is intended to enhance the base game, adding new elements that give you more choice, more variety, and a deeper gameplay experience. Rather than dramatically changing gameplay, it adds a new layer to the existing game, further enriching the world of Ark Nova.
