5 Second Rule Jr.
Can you answer in 5 seconds? An exciting family game that will test your brainpower!
"5 Second Rule Jr." is a tabletop game that can be enjoyed by the whole family, from children to adults, and trains thinking and quick thinking skills. It can be played by 3 to 6 players, and is aimed at children 6 years old and up. While the rules are simple, it's packed with the thrill of time limits and the fun of quick responses, making it the ultimate party game.
Objectives and basic rules of the game
The goal of the game is to answer the questions and reach the goal on the game board before the timer runs out.
To start the game, place the question cards in the card box, the timer, and the game board within reach of everyone. Each player chooses one of the six colored pawns and places it on the starting point of the game board.
Play begins with the youngest player and proceeds clockwise. The first player is in the "hot seat" (answerer), and the player to their left draws a card and reads the question aloud.
All question cards begin with "Name 3..." followed by a random category. If your child has trouble reading the cards, a parent or older child can help. If they don't understand the question, they can explain it or choose a new card.
Flow of play
As soon as the card is read, the timer is turned over and the player in the hot seat has 5 seconds to give three answers to the question.
For example, if the card says "Name 3 Princesses," you might answer "Snow White, Ariel, Belle." Younger or less experienced players are allowed to give two answers, but they should decide how many answers they will give before the game begins.
If you can give three (or two) answers before the timer runs out of sand, you can move one space on the game board. The next player (to your left) must answer the same question within five seconds, but they cannot use the same answer as the previous one.
For example, if the first player answers "Snow White," the next player must answer with three other princesses, such as "Ariel, Belle and Pocahontas."
If someone fails to give the required number of answers within 5 seconds, the player to their left becomes the new hotseat player and starts the next round with new cards.
Special Rule: Rainbow Zone
There is a special area on the game board called the "Rainbow Zone." If the hotseat player's pawn is in this zone, they will have an additional 5 seconds to answer. After the first 5 seconds are up, they can flip the timer again to use the additional 5 seconds.
The timer has 5 seconds for the ball inside to fall completely and hit the bottom. The sound of the timer falling is just a sound effect and does not actually measure time.
Victory Conditions and Additional Rules
The first player to reach the "Finish" mark on the game board wins.
If you're not sure if an answer is correct, decide as a group, or look it up online if necessary.
This game is fun because you have to answer quickly, and you might end up coming up with some funny answers. It is generally played by three or more people, but as a variant rule, it can also be played in teams of two. However, when playing in a team, you need to be careful not to reveal your answers to each other.
