"Red 7" card game
-The rules change! A strategic card game where you must survive until the end-
Game Overview
"Red 7" is a simple yet strategic card game. Using 49 cards (7 colors x 7 cards), players aim to survive until the end while ensuring their cards always meet the victory conditions. It can be played by 2-4 players, and each round lasts just 5-15 minutes, making it a fun and easy game to play. It's a creative game aimed at ages 9 and up that cultivates thinking skills. Because the game is written in English, understanding basic English will make it easy to play.
Basic rules of the game
At the start of the game, each player receives a hand of seven cards and one face-up card (called a palette). The color of the card placed in the central discard area (canvas) determines the victory conditions for that round. The condition at the start of the game is "Red." The rules for Red state that "the player with the highest value card wins." On their turn, each player can perform one of the following actions:
- Place a card on your palette
- Place a card on the canvas to change the victory conditions.
- After placing one on the palette, place one on the canvas.
Important point: At the end of each turn, if you do not meet the current win condition, you are immediately eliminated. The last surviving player wins that round.
Seven-color victory conditions
The biggest feature of Red 7 is that the victory conditions change depending on the color of the card. The victory conditions for each color are as follows:
color | Victory Conditions |
---|---|
red | The player with the highest card wins |
orange | The player with the most cards of the same number wins |
yellow | The player with the most cards of the same color wins |
green | The player with the most even cards wins. |
blue | The player with the most cards of different colors wins |
Indigo | The player who can create the longest sequence of numbers wins |
Purple | The player with the most cards with numbers less than 4 (1, 2, 3) wins. |
In the event of a tie, the strength of the cards is used to determine the tie. The higher the number, the stronger the card. In the case of the same number, the order of strength is determined as follows: red > orange > yellow > green > blue > indigo > purple.
Action Rules (Advanced Rules)
There are also "action rules" that further enhance the strategy. Placing an odd number of cards on the palette will activate special effects:
card | effect |
---|---|
Card 1 | Return one card from another player's palette to their deck. |
3 Card | Draw one card from the deck |
5 Card | You can add one more card to the palette |
7 Card | Place one card from your palette onto the canvas or return it to your deck. |
The appeal of the game
The greatest appeal of "Red 7" is the fun of devising strategies while adapting to the ever-changing rules. Changing the rules to your advantage or devising plays to put your opponent at a disadvantage is what makes it so appealing, despite its simple structure and deep tactics. Because each play is different, it's a game you can enjoy for a long time without getting bored. It can also be played in a short amount of time, making it perfect for a quick break or as a warm-up for board game night.
