The Sengoku period (1467-1603) was the most turbulent period in Japanese history. Why not recreate with your own hands the many heated battles that took place during the age of warring factions, when feudal lords from all over the country fought to unify the country?

"Pike & Shotte - Samurai Starter Army" is a full-scale historical miniature wargame set in Japan's Sengoku period. It was a time when the emperor and shogun were unable to control the many feudal lords, and constant fighting was taking place between various forces. It faithfully recreates a turbulent era when bushido became more defined and combat standards improved.

Recreating the military forces of the Sengoku period

Elite Samurai troops

Samurai were the symbol of the Japanese warrior class, who fought according to the strict code of bushido. This set includes 20 samurai warriors clad in magnificent armor. They were the core of the battlefield, supporting their armies with their bravery and loyalty.

The mobility of the cavalry

This set includes 12 mounted warriors, representing the mobility of the warriors on the battlefield. Although the introduction of long spears made cavalry charges more difficult in the 16th and 17th centuries, they continued to play an important role on the battlefield.

The power of foot soldiers

Ashigaru were infantrymen equipped with lighter armor than samurai, and were named after the word "light-footed." They made up the majority of the military at the time, and each samurai was expected to provide two armed ashigaru.

• Ashigaru Spearmen (40): Their spears were used for stabbing as well as slashing. Unlike their European counterparts, they were trained to fight in looser formations.
• Ashigaru Archers (40 figures): In the early Sengoku period, archers were primarily armed with bows and worked together to fire arrows at their enemies. Archery required years of training, but was a deadly weapon when used accurately.

The introduction of firearms to Tanegashima in 1543 had a major impact on Japanese tactics. However, Japanese warlords saw this as an opportunity rather than a threat, and actively embraced it. As time passed, tactics changed and samurai warriors adapted, and this set lets you experience many different aspects of the Sengoku period.

The fun of building your own army

The miniatures in this set require assembly and painting. This allows you to have fun creating your own original army by using colors that are faithful to history or recreating the crests and colors of specific daimyo families. Using the included Takeda clan decals, you can recreate the Takeda army gathered under the banner of "Fuurinkazan." Three white and three black decal sheets are also included, allowing you to represent the armies of various feudal lords.

Freely recreate battles from the Sengoku period

The 12-page rulebook, titled "Armies of the Daimyos," contains rules and scenarios for recreating battles from the Sengoku period. By utilizing this rulebook and army list, you can faithfully recreate historical battles, You can freely imagine historical turning points, such as what would have happened if Oda Nobunaga had survived the Honnoji Incident.
