Fungi is a two-player card game where you harvest and cook the bounty of the forest.

Embark on an adventure to harvest various mushrooms in the forest and create the best dishes. "Fungi" is a two-player strategic card game that depicts mushroom hunting in the bounty of nature. Players stand in the forest, find delicious mushrooms, harvest them, and cook them to win.

Game Overview

Fungi is a two-player card game for ages 10 and up. Players venture deep into the forest to harvest a variety of mushrooms, including morels, chanterelles, and erinaceous mushrooms, which they then cook with butter and cider for a delicious campfire meal that evening.

Objective of the game

The goal of the game is to earn more flavor points from cooked mushrooms than your opponent. The game ends when the last Forest card is taken, and the winner is determined by adding up the flavor points of the cooked mushrooms. In the event of a tie, the player who cooked the most mushrooms wins (Knight cards count as two mushrooms for this purpose, but butter and cider do not).

Innovative game mechanics

Fungi features a unique and innovative game mechanic: on each player's turn, they can choose to perform one of five actions:

  • Take a card from the forest
  • Remove all cards from the decay pile
  • Cook 3 or more mushrooms of the same type
  • Sell two or more of the same type of mushroom
  • Place one pot

Hand Management and Card Collection Strategies

At the start of the game, your hand limit is limited to eight cards, but you can increase it by playing basket cards. The Forest cards are divided into the "Foot Area" (the two cards in the front) and the "Deep Forest" (the six cards in the back). You can freely take cards from the "Foot Area," but you need a stick to take cards from the Deep Forest.

Taking a Moon card triggers a special event, where you discard it and draw a Night card instead, which is highly valuable as it counts as two mushrooms when cooking.

Basket cards are not added to your hand, but are immediately placed on display, increasing your hand limit by two cards. Fly Agaric cards are also not added to your hand, but are placed on display. If you take a Fly Agaric from your Decay Zone, you must add another card to your hand and then reduce your hand to a specific number of cards.

Mushroom cooking and sales

To cook mushrooms, you need a pot. You can cook by displaying three or more mushrooms of the same type and a pot. To gain more flavor points, you can add butter when cooking four or more mushrooms of the same type, or cider when cooking five or more mushrooms.

You can also earn sticks by selling two or more of the same type of mushroom. Sticks are an item needed to take Deep Forest cards and access the precious mushrooms deep within the forest.

Each mushroom card indicates the number of flavor points you can get when you cook it and the number of sticks you can get when you sell it. Deciding which mushrooms to cook and when to sell them is an important strategy that can determine victory or defeat.

The atmosphere and charm of the game

"Fungi" beautifully expresses the familiar theme of mushroom hunting in the forest in the form of a card game. It offers a simple yet deep gameplay experience, including the strategic need to harvest mushrooms and decide the optimal timing to cook or sell them, the element of resource management with a limited hand, and the tactics of predicting your opponent's moves and advancing your own plan.

With a perfect blend of card acquisition, management, set collection, and resource management, this game is a fast, two-player strategy game that brings you into the bounty of the forest and the abundance of nature.

The rule sheets are available in both English and German and are designed to be visually easy to follow, making it easy to understand the flow of the game.

Why not enjoy the bounty of the forest in "Fungi," which allows you to hunt for mushrooms in the forest, cook the mushrooms you harvest, and prepare a meal around the campfire at night, while also stimulating strategic thinking as you enjoy interacting with nature?
