[Hive Pocket - Insect Strategy Battle]

A world of strategy woven with hexagonal tiles - Hive

A new frontier in board games without a board! A two-player insect strategy game

Hive is a strategy game in which players place hexagonal pieces to completely surround the opponent's Queen Bee and aim to win. Its appeal lies in the fact that it doesn't use a game board, but rather allows players to freely shape the battle space by placing their pieces. It's simple yet strategically deep, and is also portable enough to be enjoyed anywhere.

Basic rules and flow of the game

Hive is a two-player turn-based strategy game. Each player starts with a set of 11 pieces of the same color. The goal of the game is to combine your pieces with your opponent's to completely surround the opponent's Queen Bee.

On your turn, you can either place a new piece from your hand on the board or move an already placed piece. The game ends when the opponent's queen bee is completely surrounded, and the player who surrounded it wins. If both players' queen bees are surrounded at the same time, or if the same move is repeated and no progress is made, the game ends in a draw.

Important rules include that once a piece is placed, it cannot be removed, and there is also a principle called the "One Hive Rule" which states that all pieces must remain connected at all times.

Unique insect pieces and how they move

Each piece in the Hive is named after an insect or spider and has its own unique way of moving.

  • Queen Bee : Can only move one space per turn. Must be placed on the board by the fourth turn from the start of the game. No other pieces can be moved until the Queen Bee is on the board.

  • Beetle : Can move one space per turn, and has the special ability to climb onto other pieces. Pieces under a Beetle cannot move until released. Beetles can also move onto surrounded spaces.

  • Grasshopper : Jumps over a line of pieces and lands on the first empty space. Grasshoppers are also special insects that can move into enclosed spaces.

  • Spider : Move exactly 3 spaces. You cannot go back once you have moved.

  • Ant : A highly mobile piece that can move to any empty space on the board. However, the "One Hive Rule" must be observed. Ants excel at "pinning" and effective blocking, immobilizing opponent pieces.

A gaming experience that cultivates deep strategic thinking and thinking skills

Hive has simple rules, but is highly strategic. The game involves two-sided battles: defending your own queen bee while surrounding the opponent's queen bee. One effective defensive strategy is to form a "circle" of pieces around your queen bee, preventing certain opponent pieces from entering.

The game takes about 20 minutes, which is a relatively short time, allowing players to concentrate and think carefully. Because it does not use a board, it can be played on a table, floor, grass, or any other flat surface, making it very convenient.

Hive is expected to foster strategic thinking and concentration. It naturally develops the ability to predict your opponent's moves, read multiple moves ahead, and spatial awareness to grasp the overall situation. With simple rules yet deep strategic depth, it is a board game that can be enjoyed by people of all ages, from children to adults.

Hive is great for a variety of occasions, whether it's family time, a game with friends, or just a brain teaser during your break. It's a compact, portable strategy game with depth that allows you to enjoy new developments over and over again.
